The 2016 season.

Whiting opened the 2016 season with five consecutive wins and finished the regular season 8–1. Under head coach Jeff Cain, the Oilers competed in Class 2A and the Greater South Shore Conference North Division.

The five-game postseason run included a 17–14 sectional championship victory at Knox, sealed by Chris Page’s goal-line interception. Whiting then beat Winamac 55–14 in the regional before finishing its season against Eastbrook in the semistate, 20–13. The Oilers finished 12–2 overall and 4–0 in conference play.
